Second Medal in Lawn Balls
This was India’s second medal in the Lawn Bowls competition at the CWG 2022. Earlier on Tuesday, the women’s team won the gold medal by defeating South Africa 17-10 in the final. The team of Lovely Choubey, Pinky, Nayanmoni Saikia and Roopa Rani registered a historic win. The Indian men’s performance in the competition so far has been impressive. Despite losses to hosts England (11–20) in the group-stage, victories against Fiji (14–11) and the Cook Islands (20–10) ensured their place in the quarter-finals. After that India did not look back. They beat Canada 14-12 in the quarters and 13-12 in the semi-finals.
In the final, India failed to open their account in the first four ends. This took Northern Ireland 7–0 ahead. Northern Ireland’s Cam Barkley (lead), Adam McCain (second), Ian McClure (3rd) and Martin McHugh (skip) further reduced India’s chances in the next four ends.
