New Delhi: Indian boxer Jasmine Lamboria on Saturday claimed her maiden medal at the Commonwealth Games. Jasmine grabbed the bronze. She lost to England’s Gemma Page Richardson in the women’s lightweight (60kg) semi-final at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG 2022) in Birmingham. The 20-year-old made her Commonwealth Games debut. Despite a good effort, the Indian boxer suffered a 2-3 loss due to a split decision.
Jasmine beats 2018 bronze medalist
Jasmine defeated Troy Garten of New Zealand in her quarterfinal bout to qualify for the semi-finals. During her CWG debut, Jasmine defeated 2018 World Championships bronze medalist Simranjit Kaur, followed by a final win over 2022 World bronze medalist Parveen Hooda to secure her Birmingham berth. Jasmine defeated Kaur in the trials at the World Championships.

The young boxer has won two gold medals at the All India University Games and also a gold medal at the Khelo India Youth Games. At the international level she also won the Youth Esker All Female Box Cup 2019 in Dublin, followed by the Asian Youth Bronze medal in Mongolia. While Nikhat Zareen and Amit Panghal reached the finals of their respective categories. Nikhat defeated Stubble Alfia Savannah of England 5-0 in the women’s 50kg semi-final. Panghal defeated Patrick Chinyamba of Zambia 5-0 by unanimous decision.
