Chandigarh: The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is committed to the cause of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Minorities. In this series, the Minister of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, Dr. Baljit Kaur today instructed the group officers of the department to provide the benefits of the schemes being given by the department to the beneficiaries in the shortest possible time on behalf of the Punjab Government. He said that if a complaint is received from any officer or employee regarding unnecessary obstruction in government benefits to the beneficiary, then strict action will be taken against the concerned.
Presiding over the meeting of officers held at Punjab Bhawan, Dr. Baljit Kaur reviewed all the schemes being run by the department. He said that 47 percent expansion has been made by the Punjab government in the revised budget of the current year as compared to the last financial year for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Minorities.
He said that it should be ensured that the applications received under the Ashirwad scheme are disposed of immediately. Along with this, he also ordered to give benefits soon to 31418 beneficiaries from November, 2021 to March 31, 2022 with Rs 160.23 crore.
Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for S. C. & B. C. Evaluating the students, the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship Portal was opened on April 21, 2022 for the students to apply under the scheme. On which 50851 students have applied till the date August 3, 2022. It was directed by the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment that the claims received from the deserving students should be sectioned in a dated manner and sent to the departments after implementing their proposal. So that the benefits made to the students can be given on time.
He instructed the officers of the department that the works started by the department should be completed on time and it should also be ensured that the construction work should be of good quality.
On behalf of Dr. Baljit Kaur, the officers of the department were instructed that it has come to their notice that some people are being wrongly taken advantage of by making fake certificates of Scheduled Castes, which is a breach on the rights of the people belonging to the Scheduled Castes. It’s like killing. He directed the officers to take immediate action on the complaints received against such people and strict action should be taken as per law.
