New Delhi: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned the US on Friday not to act in haste. He has said that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should avoid creating a big crisis by making another trip to Taiwan. Speaking at the 55th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers meeting, Wang said the US should not make the mistake of allowing Nancy Pelosi to visit Taiwan. The statement comes after Nancy Pelosi’s recent visit to Taiwan has raised tensions in the region.
interference in internal affairs
“The US House of Representatives Speaker Pelosi had disregarded China’s strong opposition and repeated communications from our side,” Wang said. Defending Chinese action in the region, Wang said, “It is only natural that the Chinese side should show strong opposition.” The PLA has sent 68 aircraft and 13 ships around the Taiwan Strait. The visit has seriously affected China’s sovereignty, Wang said. They have seriously interfered in our internal affairs. The US has violated the promises made with China and damaged the Taiwan Strait ties.
There is no justification for a swift military response
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that China’s military exercises around Taiwan in response to Pelosi’s visit to the self-governing island are an inconsistent, unfair and provocative method. China is conducting its largest ever military exercise in the Taiwan Strait, in which it claims to have launched missiles as part of its sovereign territory. “There is no justification for this swift military response,” Blinken told a news conference on the sidelines of the ASEAN meeting. Blinken did not meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi during the regional summit amid the tense situation.

Differences between Taiwan need to be resolved peacefully, Blinken said after Friday’s East Asia summit. Not by coercion and force, so it is up to China to resolve those differences peacefully. Responding to Blinken’s statements, Wang warned the United States not to act in a hurry to create a major crisis, at a briefing after the conclusion of various ASEAN meetings in the Cambodian capital.
Wang said the US had “spread some misinformation”. He said that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken does not speak the truth. “I heard that US Secretary of State Blinken has held his own news conference and spread some fake news,” Wang said. So it is more important for me to clear the air and state the facts.”
