New Delhi: Ahead of the ODI and T20I series against India, England has got a new white ball captain. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Thursday that batsman Jos Buttler has been appointed as the captain of the England men’s team in both the white-ball formats. He will replace Eoin Morgan, who retired from international cricket earlier this week. The ECB Interim President, Martin Darlow, and Interim Chief Executive Officer Claire Connor approved the appointment on Wednesday evening following a recommendation from England Men’s Cricket Managing Director Robb.
14 times team lead
Butler has been a part of England’s white-ball teams for over a decade. He played his first T2OI game in 2011 and made his ODI debut a year later. Wicketkeeper/batsman are important players of England. He has been the vice-captain since 2015 and has led the team 14 times (nine ODIs and five T20Is) before that. He has represented England 151 times in ODIs, scoring 4,120 runs at an average of 41.20, including 10 centuries. In T20 Internationals, he has scored 2,140 runs at an average of 34.51. He is one of three England cricketers to have scored centuries in all three formats of the game.
Butler said, “I want to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude for Eoin Morgan’s outstanding leadership over the past seven years. This has been the most memorable period for all. He has been an inspirational leader. There are many things that I have done.” Learned from him that I will take on this role. It is a great honor to take over from Eoin. Interim ECB chief executive Claire Connor said: “Jos is a fantastic role model. I’m excited to see where Jos and Matthew Mott take things from here, especially as we head towards the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.” grow.”
England Men’s Cricket Managing Director Rob Key said: “Jos Buttler was the right choice to replace Eoin Morgan as our white-ball captain. I had no hesitation in offering him the role. England men’s selection panel Friday Will announce the squad for T20 and ODI against India at lunch time.
