Asif Suhaf, Srinagar: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire on a drone in Kanachak area on the India-Pakistan border in Jammu district.
Police were immediately deployed and they followed anti-drone SOPs in the common area. At around 11 pm in the Dayaran area of Kanachak, the police noticed the drone movement and fired again at it.
The payload attached to the drone was brought down. However, the drone could not be shot down. The payload contained three magnetic IEDs packed inside a children’s tiffin box, with timers set at different times of 3 hours, 8 hours etc. The IED has been defused and dispersed through a controlled detonation.
A BSF official said that the sound of hum came from a height of about 800 meters in Akhnoor area. He said that all concerned have been informed and detailed information is awaited.
A senior Border Security Force official said that the threat of drones is present everywhere along the India-Pakistan border, but the security forces are on alert to thwart any nefarious designs from across the border.
He said the Army and BSF have complete control along the Line of Control (LoC) to ensure the safety of the people along the border.
