New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said “people are always” for the BJP-led government. The PM also said that the Centre’s decisions, especially those relating to a significant reduction in petrol and diesel prices for citizens and further ‘ease of living’, will positively impact various sectors and provide relief.
The Center on Saturday announced reduction of excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter in a significant move aimed at providing relief to the people. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted and made several announcements including excise duty relief on petrol and diesel.
PM Modi also mentioned the decision to give subsidy on gas cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme this year. PM Modi in a tweet said, “Always for us people are first! Today’s decision, especially related to the significant drop in petrol and diesel prices will have a positive impact on various sectors, will bring relief to our citizens and ‘ease off’. Living’ will also happen.”
He said, “Ujjwala scheme has helped crores of Indians, especially women. Today’s decision on Ujjwala subsidy will greatly ease the family budget.”
It is worth noting that news agency ANI has quoted Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as saying – We are reducing the central excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter. This will reduce the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per liter and that of diesel by Rs 7 per liter.
The Finance Minister also announced that- Also, this year, we will give a subsidy of Rs 200 per gas cylinder (up to 12 cylinders) to more than 9 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
“We are also reducing customs duty on raw materials and middlemen for plastic products where our import dependence is high. Import duty on some steel raw materials will be reduced. Export duty will be levied on some steel products,” he said.
He further added, “Measures are being taken to improve the availability of cement and to reduce the cost of cement through better logistics.”
