New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam today, where he will lay the foundation stone of several projects. The Prime Minister will address a ‘Peace, Unity and Development rally’ at Diphu in Karbi Anglong district at around 11 am.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), during the program PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of various projects in the field of education. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of Veterinary College (Diphu), Degree College (West Karbi Anglong) and Agricultural College (Kolonga, West Karbi Anglong). These projects worth over Rs 500 crore will bring new opportunities for skilling and employment in the region.
The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of over 2,950 Amrit Sarovar projects during the programme. The state will develop these Amrit Sarovars at a cumulative cost of about Rs 1,150 crore.
In a statement, the PMO said, “The Prime Minister’s unwavering commitment to the peace and development of the region was a memorandum of understanding (MoS) signed by the Government of India and the Government of Assam with six Karbi extremist organizations recently. A new era has been ushered in. The Prime Minister’s address at the ‘Shanti, Ekta and Vikas Rally’ will boost peace initiatives across the region.
The Prime Minister will reach Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh at around 01:45 pm and dedicate Dibrugarh Cancer Hospital to the nation.
Later, around 3 pm, he will attend a public function at Dibrugarh’s Khanikar Maidan, where he will dedicate six more cancer hospitals to the nation and lay the foundation stone for seven new cancer hospitals.
In Dibrugarh, Assam Cancer Care Foundation, a joint venture of the Government of Assam and Tata Trusts, is executing a project to create South Asia’s largest affordable cancer care network with 17 cancer care hospitals spread across the state.
Under the first phase of the project, out of 10 hospitals, construction of seven hospitals has been completed, while three hospitals are in various stages of construction. Seven new cancer hospitals will be built in the second phase of the project.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate seven cancer hospitals completed under the first phase of the project. These cancer hospitals have come up in Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Darang, Tezpur, Lakhimpur and Jorhat.
He will also lay the foundation stone for seven new cancer hospitals to be set up under Phase II of the project at Dhubri, Nalbari, Goalpara, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Tinsukia and Golaghat.
