Today i.e. March 27 is very important for Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. Shoaib Akhtar, popularly known as Rawalpindi Express, became the first bowler in the history of cricket to cross the speed of 160 kmph on this day. However, even after achieving the world record mark, he could not set the world record. (Shoaib Akhtar twitter)
Akhtar had bowled the ball at a speed of 100.04mph (161 kmph) in an ODI match against New Zealand in Lahore 20 years ago. This ball was played by Cred McMillan. He was the first bowler to bowl more than 160 kmph. (ICC T20 World Cup)
However, the ICC did not accept this record. He said that he did not have the right technology to measure this record. In such a situation, even by making a record, Shoaib Akhtar could not maintain it. (PCB)
Akhtar officially holds the record for bowling the fastest ball in the world in the 2003 World Cup. In the 2003 World Cup against England, Akhtar bowled the ball at a speed of 100.2 miles per hour or 161.3 kilometers per hour. Till date no bowler in the world has been able to break this record of Akhtar. (screengrab)
