New Delhi: US electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc is open to setting up operations in India, making cars for sale and exporting them, but cars must not be imported from China. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said this on Tuesday. Nitin Gadkari said during a government conference, ‘Making in China and selling here is not a good proposition’.
Tesla is eagerly waiting to import and sell its electric vehicles in India. Officials in New Delhi lobbied for nearly a year to cut tariffs by the company, which the company’s billionaire CEO Elon Musk says is the world’s highest in India.
However, the talks between the company and the government are still hanging. At the same time, Tesla has not told about its plan to invest in India. As it comes in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision, which will come in handy to boost local manufacturing and generate employment.
