Mumbai: A brave home guard posted in a suburban train in Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai saved the life of a female passenger who fell on the platform while getting down from a moving train. The woman lost her balance as soon as she stepped on the platform.
Trying to regain balance, the woman kept on grasping the handle at the entrance of the train. As the train started picking up speed, the woman also started going ahead and she lost her balance. The home guard immediately got off the train and dragged him from the space between the train and the platform, which saved his life.
A video of the traumatic incident that took place at Mumbai’s Jogeshwari station has surfaced online. Mumbai Police Commissioner (Railways) Kaiser Khalid said the home guard has been rewarded for his alertness. Khalid identified the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel as Altaf Sheikh.
Khalid said, ‘Home guard Altaf Shaikh did a good job in saving the life of a female passenger who fell while boarding a suburban train at Jogeshwari station on 16/4/22. They are being rewarded for their presence of mind, alertness and devotion to duty.

The video shows at least two other passengers jumping off a moving train and falling on the platform.
Following this incident, the Government Railway Police has requested passengers to avoid boarding or deboarding a moving train as it can be fatal.
It often happens that people do not remember the safety guidelines in a hurry to board or deboard the train, as a result of which they face dire consequences.
Recently, a similar incident came to light from Wadala railway station in Mumbai. A passenger had fallen from a moving train, but an alert constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) saved his life. The Central Railway had identified the constable as Netrapal Singh.
Videos of railway employees risking their lives to save the lives of passengers regularly surface on social media. Last year, a railway employee risked his life to save a child who had fallen on the tracks. The train was close to the platform.
