DhakaVeteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to make a comeback in the two-Test home series. The match will be played against Sri Lanka from May 15. Also, his arrival will boost Bangladesh’s spirits further. The series will be played under the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle, where Sri Lanka are currently ranked fifth with 50 percentage points, while Bangladesh are second from the bottom of the eighth spot with 16.66 per cent.
Shakib, who scored over 4000 runs in 59 Test matches and took 215 wickets, missed the two-match Test series against South Africa due to personal reasons. The fourth innings included two disappointing performances, where they were dismissed for 53 and 80 respectively.
Shakib also missed the series against South Africa due to injury. Taskin Ahmed, who sustained a shoulder injury during the first Test against the Proteas, is unavailable as his treatment continues.
The Mominul Haque-led Bangladesh team has a good mix of experience and youth, with Rezaur Rahman Raja and Shohidul Islam awaiting their maiden Test cap.
Sri Lanka will reach Bangladesh on May 8 and play a two-day warm-up match before the start of the first Test in Chattogram. After this, the second Test match will be played on 23 May at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
