BENGALURU: In view of the spurt in fresh COVID cases in New Delhi and other North Indian states, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will hold a high level meeting on Monday to review the latest pandemic situation.
State Revenue Minister R. Ashok, Health Minister K. Sudhakar, Higher Education and IT-BT Minister C.N. Ashwathnarayan, as well as the Chairman and Member of the Technical Advisory Committee.
New cases in Karnataka have crossed the 100 mark twice in the last week.
On April 21, 100 cases were reported and on April 23, 139 cases were reported. In the last 24 hours, 60 new cases were registered in the state.
Sudhakar on Monday appealed to people to wear masks and follow the COVID protocol to protect themselves from a possible fourth wave.
“People should get a second dose of vaccination as well as a booster dose. Vaccination for children over the age of five will be available soon,” he said.
He urged the parents of children above 12 years of age to get their sons and daughters vaccinated.
“The state has started preparing to face the fourth wave. Strict guidelines have been implemented at airports and restrictions on passengers coming from eight countries will continue,” he said.
According to the minister, New Delhi and other north Indian states are seeing a rise in the number of cases, while Karnataka is two to three weeks behind them.
Sudhakar explained that by the fourth week, the state would have a clear picture of the state’s scenario and then the response would start.
“We have to look at the recommendation of the Technical Advisory Committee on Testing and there is no need to increase testing unnecessarily in the state as of now,” he said.
“We have to see how the virus behaves. It will have to be seen whether the virus will not affect people like it did during the third wave,” he said.
