New DelhiPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday received the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for his selfless service to the nation and society at the 80th Annual Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Awards ceremony in Mumbai. Modi, who was in Jammu and Kashmir earlier on Sunday morning, left for Mumbai from there and reached the Maharashtra capital around 4.45 pm.
The Prime Minister had tweeted on Saturday evening, ‘Tomorrow evening, I will be in Mumbai where I will be given the first Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award. I am grateful and humbled by this honor associated with Lata didi. He always dreamed of a strong and prosperous India and contributed to nation building.
The Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award was given in memory and honor of the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, affectionately known as Lata Didi, who passed away on 6 February at the age of 92.
A statement issued by the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smriti Pratishthan Charitable Trust said, “The award has been given every year to only one individual who has made a pioneering, illustrious and exemplary contribution to the nation, its people and society.”
Referring to Modi, who will be the first recipient, the statement said, “He is an international statesman who has put India on the path of global leadership.” The wonderful progress that is being made in every aspect and dimension of our beloved nation is inspired by them. He is indeed one of the greatest leaders our great nation has seen in its glorious history spanning thousands of years.
On the evening of February 6, Modi visited Mumbai to pay his last respects to Lata Mangeshkar at Shivaji Park, where she was cremated.
