A massive fire broke out in a godown at Sabzi Mandi railway station in the capital Delhi on Sunday afternoon, causing a stir. A plume of black smoke filled the sky with massive flames erupting from the warehouse. 16 fire tenders had to be pressed into service to douse the fire. There has been no casualty in the accident.
According to fire brigade officials, a call was received at around 4.25 pm, informing that a major fire had broken out in a godown of Sabzi Mandi railway station near Pratap Nagar metro station in North Delhi. After this 14 fire tenders were immediately sent to the spot to douse the fire. Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg said that the situation is now under control.
Initially the fire department had sent two fire tenders, but as soon as the fire brigade reached the spot and assessed the situation, seven more fire tenders were sent to the spot and then seven more were sent. Another official said that a total of 16 machines are dousing the fire.
In videos recorded by eyewitnesses and the fire department, massive flames could be seen rising from the warehouse with plumes of black smoke. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but there has been considerable damage to the goods. “It is a railway godown, so the fire started with various things present there, including some cables,” the official said.
