New Delhi: The Khelo India University Games were inaugurated by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also attended the opening ceremony. This is the second edition of Khelo India University Games. In 2020, the University Games were organized for the first time in Bhubaneswar. Isaac could not be organized last year due to Corona.
Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said on Saturday that about 3900 male and female players from 189 universities across the country would shine their talents in these games. Big players who have participated in the Olympics for the country are also participating in these games, which will inspire young and budding players. Olympians like shooter Manu Bhaker, Divyansh Singh Panwar, Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar, sprinter Dutee Chand, swimmer Shrihari Natraj are going to participate in the Khelo India University Games.
The first Khelo India University Games was held in Bhubaneswar in 2020. During that time 3182 players participated. Punjab finished first by winning 46 medals including 17 gold medals.
