Hyderabad. Actress Mumait Khan appeared before the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday as part of the investigation into the money laundering case related to the drugs racket. This drugs racket was busted in 2017. Mumait is the 8th celebs associated with the Telugu film industry (Tollywood) to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in this regard. The investigating agency has so far summoned 10 persons including directors and actors. Eminent filmmakers Puri Jagannadh, actresses Charmi Kaur and Rakul Preet Singh, actors Rana Daggubati, Ravi Teja and P Navdeep have appeared before the central probe agency since August 31 this year.
Apart from Telugu films, Mumait has also appeared in Hindi, Tamil and Kannada films. On July 2, 2017, Telangana’s Prohibition and Excise Department busted a drug racket by arresting a 3-member gang, including musician Calvin Mascarenhas, for smuggling drugs like LSD and MDMA.
The ED had also recently questioned Kelvin. After this, several cases related to drug smuggling were registered and about 20 people, including a US citizen, were arrested. The arrested US citizen was formerly an aerospace engineer and had worked with NASA. Apart from this, 7 BTech degree holders were also involved in this.
The names of some Tollywood celebrities came up during the interrogation of those arrested in connection with the drugs racket. Investigators suspected that the gang’s clients included film personalities, employees of multinational companies, school and college students.
