This defamation case was filed against Singh by AIMIM leader SA Hussain Anwar. He had alleged that Singh defamed AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi by saying that the Hyderabad MP’s party was contesting elections in other states for financial gains. The petitioner’s lawyer, Mohammad Asif Amjad, said that he had sent legal notices to both Digvijay Singh and the editor of an Urdu daily that published the article and asked for an apology but both of them did not respond after which they moved the court. During the previous date of hearing, the court had directed that Digvijay Singh and the editor appear before it on 22 February.
